James Leon “Wick” Whitaker, 51, of Flora, passed away on Tuesday, June 16 at 12:15 p.m. at his residence.


James was born on March 19, 1958 to Henry “Hank” Whitaker and Susie (Fulk) Fender in Tuscola. On June 1, 1984, he was married to Eileen Mefford in Urbana. James loved his dogs and was always there to lend a helping hand to others. James enjoyed fishing and the company of others.

James is survived by his father, Henry “Hank” Whitaker of Flora; his step-father, Bill Fender; his wife, Eileen Whitaker of Flora; his daughters, Ginger Bailey of Flora and Angie Akes of Flora; his son, Mark Kelm Jr. of Louisville; his sisters, Lora Courson of Flora, Lana Gould of Louisville and Sue Moulton of Bible Grove; his brothers, Jack Fulk and wife Martha of Flora, Neil Gould of Edgewood and Billy Fender of Louisville; 11 grandchildren and many he considered family in his heart.

Preceding James in death was his Mother, and his sister, Judi Ellen Newell.

Services for James Leon “Wick” Whitaker are planned for 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 20 at Frank and Bright Funeral Home. There will be a visitation at the same location from 11 a.m. until the time of the services. Interment will be at Hoosier Prairie Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
