Christmas cheer began the day after Thanksgiving in Flora with the opening of the Flora Rotary’s annual “Festival of Trees,” held at the Flora Depot in the Community Room.
The Festival was open On Friday, Saturday and Sunday and will be open again this weekend, on Friday and Saturday from noon until 8 p.m.
Also featured is live entertainment, including music from 6 to 7 p.m. on these nights.
The Festival of Trees is where, individuals and organizations each decorate a tree or wreath, usually with a theme of their choosing. Visitors to the Festival can vote on their favorite tree and certain trees and wreaths are being auctioned off as well.
There are 19 trees and seven wreaths in the Festival.
One of the attractions of the festival is seeing the creativity of those who made the trees in action.
ACT Tire and Auto’s “Roll’n On Down the Road,” was a tree made of stacked tires with garlands of Hot Wheels tracks.
“It’s the Real Thing” was a tree sponsored by Berdella McGrew, Jan Phillips and Stacey Earleywine with a CocaCola theme.
“An Orange and Blue Christmas” is a Flora Wolves themed tree decorated by Smitty and Mable Smith featuring FHS student athletes and colors. The sale of that tree will benefit the “Creating a Bright-R Future” Program in honor of deceased Clay County Coroner Gary Bright.
Also promoting the “Creating a Bright-R Future” program is the Flora Rotary sponsored tree by the same name. That tree features construction equipment and signs, as the program is to help individuals and families in Flora with home repair projects.
There are many more tree at the Festival of Trees than those listed here, and the work and creativity that has gone into each of them better seen than read. Remember, the Festival is open again this weekend. Come check out the trees yourself.
The cost for the “Festival of Trees” is a suggested $3 donation.
