The results are in! The Community Health Committee has been hard at work to identify the top health priorities in Clay County. Based on data from the County Health Profile, community input via the Health Survey, and the results of various assessments, the Committee has identified the following as the top 3 health priorities in Clay County:
• Obesity Prevention / Healthy Living
• Access to Healthcare
Obesity Prevention / Healthy Living: There are many benefits to healthy living. Proper nutrition, increased physical activity, and obesity prevention can help decrease your risk for heart disease, diabetes, certain types of cancers, and provides many more health benefits. The Committee chose to include obesity prevention and healthy living as a health priority because of its potential to impact the rates of multiple chronic diseases.
Cancer: Cancer has consistently been one of the top two leading causes of death in Clay County. The subcommittee proposes to continue to promote early cancer detection activities. Early detection and treatment can improve the quality of life and mortality rates of those affected by cancer.
Access to Healthcare: Many Clay County residents have identified access to healthcare as an important factor for a healthy community. Access to mental health services, dialysis treatment, substance abuse counseling, and health insurance coverage for the uninsured/under-insured are possible topics that the Access to Healthcare subcommittee may address.
