The roar of the crowd, the famous drivers in endorsement-splashed uniforms, the checkered flags, everything at Flora’s McEndree School this Friday seemed like a day at the races, minus the gasoline smell and, of course, cars.
What were the students revving their engines for? It was time for the ISAT 100, the end of the school’s preparation for the yearly standardized tests.
The tests are actually being administered this week, but from February 27 up through the ISAT 100, students in the third grade have been preparing themselves for the test,
including taking a number of practice tests and getting all of the younger students excited to support the third grade test-takers.
Leading up to the ISATs, there were a number of theme days to keep everyone excited, including “Rock the Test” day, when students dressed like rock stars, “Hair Raising Scores,” which was crazy hair day, and “Let’s Put This Test to Rest,” which was a pajama day.
Students had to take eight practice tests in anticipation of the real deal, and were rewarded for how they did on them.
All of the students who took the practice tests got trophies at the ISAT 100 Friday.
The students that did the best, passing seven out of the eight practice tests, got a pair of light-up sunglasses too. These students included Jerron Borders, Jay Desai, Shaellie Huddlestun, Emma Luzadder, Scott SzudyWarren Gavin, Joseph Williams, Timothy Tracy, Rowdy Collins, Matt Crosby, Lowell Cook, Brianna Newby, Alexander Payne, Rylee Uebinger, Michael Gocey, Ashton Guerrettaz, Nicole Hale and Beth Welty.
Other rewards for all students include a “Pit Pass,” which allowed them to go to a pizza party, and during the week of the test, entertainment after the tests includes relays, movies and a scavenger hunt.
