Members of the Flora Chamber of Commerce gathered at Angela's Village Florist, located at 115 E. North Avenue in Flora on Tuesday morning to hold a ribbon cutting for the business' move to Flora.
To celebrate the new location, owner Angela Hemrich will be hosting a grand opening open house on Friday and Saturday, this weekend, complete with refreshments, a prize drawing for two $50 fresh arrangement candle baskets, and specials on small humorous signs, which will be half off for the first three hours of business each day.
Hemrich is an Illinois Certified Professional Florist, and has many years of experience locally. Previously, the business was located in Clay City.
"I think it will be a good move," said Hemrich, "I like the community of Clay City, of course, I'm from Clay City, and they have been very good to me." Hemrich says that her business is growing though, she has always had a large number of Flora customers, and that she got a great deal on the building where her business now resides.
The business is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Hemrich also says that their hours can be flexible in doing whatever is necessary for their customers, especially in the case of funerals.
And why does Hemrich like working as florist and getting people flowers so much?
"It's kind of hard to explain," she says. "My mother and I, when I was a kid we planted little flowers gardens and things, so I've always loved flowers, but...have you ever taken a little old lady a nice arrangement and just watched her world light up? It's a good feeling."
