Wolfgals suffer defeat at Olney

Olney - The Flora Wolves win big at Olney 12 - 4, while the Wolfgals suffer defeat 11 - 9.

The Flora Wolves took a little revenge on the Olney Tigers on Monday, May 5th by defeating them on their home field 12 - 4 after being defeated by the Tigers by the score of 11 - 1 on March 28th at Mike Jennings Field in Flora.

The Flora Wolves jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning when Wolves Trey Thompson hit a single that scored Zach Allison who drew a walk and Bryce Pearce who had started things off with a single of his own.

The Tigers got on the scoreboard when Miller singled to centerfield scoring R. Eagleson. A big inning in the top of the third for the Wolves as they scored three runs as Zach Allison singled, Blake Fitch singled scoring Allison, Trey Thompson hit a  two run Home-Run over the centerfield fence making the score 5 - 1 . The Tigers scored one run in the bottom of the third inning with the Wolves still up 5 - 2. The Tigers scored one run in the bottom of the fourth inning with Flora in the lead 5 - 3 staying that way through the top of the sixth inning.

In the top of the sixth the Wolves scored again off a Bryce Pearce single plating Durre who had walked. The Flora Wolves scored a total of five runs in the top of the sixth inning and held the Tigers scoreless after six with the score 10 - 3 Flora.

Rase Collins started things off for Flora in the top of the seventh with a single to centerfield, Zach Allison singled to right-field and Pearce drew a walk. Collins scored off a Blake Fitch single to right-field and Allison scored after tagging up after Trey Thompson flied out to centerfield. The score was then 12 - 3 Flora in the middle of the seventh. The Tigers last chance to to get it done scored only one run in the bottom of the seventh, securing a win for the Wolves.

The winning pitcher for the Wolves was Bryce Pearce throwing a complete game with a total of 180 pitches, 116 of those being strikes. Taking the loss for the Tigers was Zuber, throwing a total of 93 pitches, 57 of those being strikes. The Tigers used four pitchers on the day, but failed to get it done on the hill.

The big hitter on the day for the Wolves was Trey Thompson who went 3-for-5, Home-Run, 5-RBIs, one run scored. Zach Allison 3-for-4, four runs scored; Tristan Litaker 3-for-5, double, two RBIs; Bryce Pearce 2-for-4, two runs scored, RBI; Rase Collins 3-for-4, double, two runs scored; Blake Fitch 2-for-3, two runs scored, three RBIs; Jeremiah Allison 1-for-2; Luke Durre run scored.

As a team the Flora Wolves scored 12 runs off 17 hits, 14 singles, 2-doubles, 1-Home-Run, 11 RBIs, six walks, only three strike-outs in 35 at bats, with 4-errors.

The Flora Wolves are 12 - 13 overall on the season, 6 - 3 in the LIC. The Wolves next games will be on Wednesday, May 7th at home versus North Clay at 4:30 p.m., then on the road to Benton Thursday, May 8th and Friday May 9th to Effingham. Game times are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. for all three games.

Flora Wolfgals vs. Olney Lady Tigers:

The Flora Wolfgals were not as fortunate as the Wolves with a victory, the Wolfgals suffered a defeat by the score of 11 - 9.

The Lady Tigers scored one run in the bottom of the first taking the lead 1 - 0, then scored three more runs in the bottom of the second inning to increase their lead by the score of 4 - 0 at the end of two innings.

The Wolfgals came back in the top of the third inning scoring three runs closing the Lady Tigers deficit by the score of 4 - 3. The Lady Tigers scored one run in the bottom of the third inning, one run in the fourth inning and three runs in the fifth inning to give them a lead of 9 - 3.

Flora Wolfgals not quitting scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning when Meg Hout hit a three run Home-Run over the left centerfield fence, establishing a rally closing the score gap to 9 - 6 in the middle of six. The Lady Tigers scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, still keeping the lead at 11 - 6.

In the top of the seventh inning it was the Wolfgals last chance to tie the score and take the lead. The Wolfgals with Allison Carder hitting a single. First baseman Kenzie Jennings stepped to the plate and hit a two run shot for a Home-Run over the fence cutting into the Lady Tigers lead of 11 - 8. Crimson Jones keeping the rally going hit a double, with Meg Hout coming to the plate, hitting a home-run at her last at bat. Hout continuing hit a single with a throwing error that scored Jones from second base making the score 11 - 9. The rally ended and so did the game as the Olney Lady Tigers defeated the Flora Wolfgals by the score of 11 - 9.

The winning pitcher for the Lady Tigers was Larissa Michels throwing a complete game with two strike-outs, walking one, hitting one batter in seven innings. Taking the loss for the Wolfgals was Meg Hout pitching six innings, striking-out two, walking one, hitting one batter.

The Flora Wolfgals are now 10 - 9 overall on the season and 4 - 4 in the LIC. The Wolfgals next games are Thursday, May 8th for a rain out conference game with Newton and then on Friday, May 9th as they travel to Effingham.Game times are scheduled at 4:30 p.m. for both games.
