The evening of Thurs., Nov. 5th from 6 pm to 10:30 pm at Flora High School will be a special one for the Flora Academic Foundation. It will feature its annual fundraising effort along with an opportunity to recognize and honor FAF board member Jan Phillips. This will be Jan’s last official function as a member of the Flora Academic Foundation board.
Jan joined the board one year after its founding and has had a major impact on the board throughout her time of service. She was the main “idea person” for the Radiothon when it began some 20 or more years ago. Today, the Radiothon and Jan’s influence continue to have a major impact on the FAF, it goals and the students in FCUSD #35.
The board will recognize Jan’s many years of service, and it encourages the community to acknowledge her many contributions to the foundation’s success by contributing generously on the evening of the Radiothon. Her primary interest throughout the years has been the promotion of excellence and providing unique learning opportunities for the students in the Flora District.
The Radiothon will offer an evening of excellent entertainment. The hours between 6 and 8 pm will basically feature the talent and skills of many local students. Later in the evening, older individuals and groups from throughout the community will be performing for the enjoyment of all in attendance. If you are unable to attend, the entire program can be heard by listening to WNOI (103.9). In addition to the support of WNOI, the foundation also wishes to acknowledge the contributions of Aaron Anderson of Ultimate Sound Experience.
Another special feature of the evening will be the awarding of a $25 gas card every half hour throughout the Radiothon. Those who contribute or make a pledge will be eligible to have their name placed in a drawing for one of these prizes.
Those who have attended in the past know that delicious snacks and treats are provided by the foundation board members for all those who are part of the audience in the Commons area at FHS. It is an evening of fun, great entertainment, good food, and an opportunity to support our local students………one of our most valuable community assets.
Pledges to support the Foundation and its funding of projects for local students can be made by calling 662-8316 or by coming by FHS on the evening of Nov. 5th. If you are unable to make the call or attend that evening, contributions may be mailed directly to the Flora Unit Office, WNOI-FAF Radiothon, 444 S. Locust St., Flora, IL 62839.
