Flora, IL - Jennifer Brown, Clay County E911 Coordinator in Clay County announces that Telecommunicator’s Week is celebrated April 9th – 15th , 2017. National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week is observed every year during the second full week in April. This year, the week falls on the dates of April 9thth thru April 15th.
National Public Safety Telecomunicators Week was originally introduced to Congress in 1991 as a means of honoring everyone who works in public safety telecommunications. Historically, the week has been marked by a letter from the President of the United States congratulating the dedicated and hard-working individuals who work in public safety telecommunications.
This week is an important reminder of how essential 9-1-1 call takers, police, fire and EMS dispatchers, and related support staff are to public safety.
The following 9-1-1 Telecommunicators are recognized for their dedication and service: Jennifer Brown has been with the Flora Police Department since 2000 and was promoted to Supervisor in 2004. She graduated Lakeland College, Mattoon with an Associate in Law Enforcement. In 2005 she took over the roll as 911 Coordinator for the County. Jennifer is also a member of the Flora/Clay County ESDA unit since 1991.
Elizabeth Tackitt began her career at Flora Police Department in 2004. She graduated from SIU Carbondale with a degree in Law Enforcement.
Michael Dickerson began his career at the Flora Police Department in 2009. He comes to the Department with a degree in Law Enforcement and was an EMT Basic for Clay County Hospital. Michael is also a member for the Flora/Clay County ESDA unit since 2003.
Megan Woomer is the newest dispatcher for Flora Police Department starting her career in October of 2016.
Steve Lewis came to the Department and began his career in 2007 as our part-time dispatcher. He is also a member of the Flora/Clay County ESDA since 1988 and is currently the ESDA Coordinator for Flora and Clay County.
