MACOMB — Western Illinois University President Jack Thomas announced on Tuesday that Matt Bierman will be the vice president of administrative services effective May 1.
According to a media release from Western, Bierman has been acting as interim vice president since Jan. 1, 2016, as well as budget director since 2012.
As vice president of administrative services,  Bierman has been the treasurer for the Board of Trustees, as well as the university’s chief administrative, business and financial officer. He has also been the liaison on financial matters to various state and federal agencies.
"I am honored that I have the opportunity to continue my work as the vice president for administrative services, and I look forward to continuing our efforts to move Western forward,” Bierman stated.
According to WIU University Relations, Bierman has been the University's budget director since April 2012. As the budget director, he has been responsible for developing the University's $240 million All-Funds Budget, recommending tuition and fee rates, and the annual legislative reporting to the Illinois Board of Higher Education, the Illinois Legislature and the governor's office. He has also led WIU's Business Services since 2014. Bierman served as the interim budget director from July 2011-April 2012.
Previously, Bierman had served as the director of residential facilities at WIU from 2006-2012. In that role, he was responsible for organizing and monitoring a $40 million budget, organizing room and board rates and monitoring debt service and food services. He also oversaw all facilities-related issues for University Housing and Dining Services. Bierman also served as the assistant director of residential facilities and administration at WIU (2003-2006); St. Louis Rams Summer Training Camp Coordinator at WIU (1999-2004), and complex director at Western (1999-2003).
Bierman serves as an instructor in WIU's college student personnel program and is a member of the IT Governance Council, and the Enterprise System Task Force. He serves as member of the Auxiliary Facilities Systems Committee, and is the past president of Great Lakes Association of College and University Housing Officers. Bierman is vice president of the Macomb Community Unit School District No. 185 Board and is a member of the Macomb Area Chamber of Commerce Legislative Committee.
He received his bachelor's degree from WIU, a master's degree in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education from Ball State University and a Master of Business Administration from Western.
