With a light agenda in front of them, the Flora City Council approved the purchase of a new truck for the Flora Street Department.
Superintendent of Public Works Toby Rinehart presented the proposal to the council for the purchase. It is a budgeted 2017 Ford F-350 with a dump bed, salt spreader and snowplow from Bob Ridings Ford in Taylorville for $56,703.
Mayor Bob Tackitt announced that the Flora Kiwanis Club asked for permission to move the annual Fireworks display to July 3 due to the club not being able to get a licensed crew on the 4th.
Tackitt also thanked the ESDA crew that was on hand for their assistance during the Fishing Derby held recently at Charley Brown Park. Commissioner Phil Wiley thanked city workers for their assistance after last Sunday.
Commissioner Mike Stanford reported that the start of the swimming season at the Flora Swimming pool is going very well. Fire Chief Bruce Dickey stated that the open house of the new Fire Station went well last Saturday with over 300 people attending.
