Bailey’s Flower Garden an anchor of Louisville’s square has a new name and a new owner. The Potter’s Shed, as it is now known, will have some things change, but for the new owner, Cindy Bailey, “It feels like I was never gone.”
Jean Bailey, the former owner, is Cindy’s mother-in-law. Cindy was also Jean’s business partner in the Flower Garden for close to 15 years, so when Jean thought about retiring, she called Cindy and husband Darren, her son, and asked them if they would be interested.
Cindy said she was praying on what to next with her life; with some of her kids out of the house or getting married and her youngest, Abie (who also works at the Potter’s Shed), turning 16, it was time for something new. Being back in business on the square in Louisville is that something. “I believe God has opened a door for me to be back in here,” said Bailey.
Now, to welcome customers, both old and new, to the Potter’s Shed, they are having a week-long grand opening to celebrate. From Monday through Friday, each day will feature a 20-percent off sale on a different area of the store. Plus, if you make a purchase, your name will go in for a drawing on Saturday for a gift package valued at $250. Saturday will also feature a storewide sale with everything 25-percent off.
“We’re expanding and continuing expanding and continuing to carry those unique gift lines that Bailey’s customers love,” said Bailey, “But we’re bringing a new spin to the soda fountain and coffee bar areas.”
Bailey is also quick to mention that the soda fountain will be operating until dusk all through the summer, so those wanting to cool down with an old-fashioned soda or an ice cream cone should come to the square and take a seat at the fountain. Bailey adds, “And hot buttered popcorn is always free.”
In a bid to attract new customers and crowds there are other changes as well. For one, the location is now a wireless internet or Wi-Fi hotspot. Plus, the Potter’s Shed will be expanding the Christian bookstore, as well as adding a listening station for Christian music. “It’s all genres too,” said Bailey, “Not just contemporary Christian music.”
In order to bring in the younger moms, the Potter’s Shed has tried to loosen some of the areas of the store up. “Children are always welcome,” said Bailey, “Now there’s a children’s room that they can sit or play in while Mom shops.”
Another thing adding to the new look at the Potter’s Shed is a number of beautiful photographs on the wall, all done by area photographer Britt Bailey. Most of the photos are of area high schoolers, some from Louisville, but some from Clay City and Flora as well.
In addition to bringing new products to the lines that Bailey’s customers know and love, the Potter’s Shed will also be brining in new lines that are very high quality, but economical as well. Some new lines at the store include candles from Tyler Candle Company and McCalls, and Feed on the Word dinnerware.
The Potter’s Shed will continue to have fresh flowers, for both everyday needs as well as for funerals and holidays and events. They will also be offering custom design work for bouquets and centerpieces.
For longtime customers of Bailey’s Flower Garden or those coming into the Potter’s Shed for the first time, the words on the door say it all, said Bailey, “Step inside, fall in love.”
