A time and date for funeral services for Marine Corporal Jamie Russel Lowe, a Johnsonville native, who was killed in action on Monday, January 11 in Afghanistan, have been set.
Services for Cpl. Lowe will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Orchardville Community Church. There will also be a visitation from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the same location.
Cpl. Lowe served the Marine Corps with the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, and III Marine Expeditionary Force.
Lowe and two other Marines, Staff Sgt. Matthew N. Ingram 25, and Cpl. Nicholas K. Uzenski, 21, were killed in the same firefight with insurgent forces on Monday. The men were among the ten servicemen that have been killed already this year in Afghanistan.
Lowe enlisted in August 2007 and arrived on Okinawa, where his unit was based, a year later. His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, NATO Medal ISAF, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
“He was driven to be the best, and it showed in everything he did,” Maj. Jordan Walzer, Cpl. Lowe’s officer-in-charge in Afghanistan, said in a statement given to Militarycity.com.
In Cisne, where Lowe attended Cisne High School the path from Hosselton Funeral Home to Orchardville Church will have flags displayed on it. There is also a memorial wall being set up outside the funeral home for those that wish to pay their respects or to leave flowers or candles in Lowe’s memory.
