On Jan. 11 Michael J. Utley, age 19, of Clay City was sentenced to serve three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
State's Attorney Marilyn D. Brant reports that Utley entered a plea of guilty to the charge of Burglary, a Class 2 Felony. He was charged with entering the building of Sharon Shaw, doing business as The Price Is Right Consignment Shop located at 107 1st Street in Clay City, on April 29, 2009, with the intent to commit a theft.
Utley is currently serving a prison sentence out of Clinton County, Illinois, and the Clay County sentence will not begin until the Clinton County sentence has been completed. He was also ordered to make restitution to The Price is Right in the amount of $754.16.
The State's Attorney indicated that Clay County Sheriff's Deputies performed the investigation of the case, and conducted extensive interviews to track down much of the stolen merchandise. The Illinois State Police Crime Scene Technician also assisted in the investigation.
