Leah Geneva Wattles Hart, age 92, of Louisville, Illinois passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 6:52 a.m. at Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana, Illinois.
Leah was born on January 27, 1920 to Leonard S. Devore and Rena Jencie (Kenley) Devore in Clay County, Illinois.
She was married to her first husband Charles “Jake” Wattles on October 1, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri. He passed away on April 26, 1978. She married her second husband Everett Hart in 1983 at Louisville Methodist Church. He passed away on July 20, 1990. Leah was a shoe dresser for the International Shoe Factory in Flora and Olney. She was also a member of the Louisville Baptist Church.
Judge Ericka Sanders sentenced a Carmi woman to serve three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections in Clay County Circuit Court, according to Clay County State’s Attorney Marilyn D. Brant.
Jody Lee Page, age 30, was ordered to serve the three-year sentence, plus a two-year period of mandatory supervised release. A $1,000.00 mandatory drug assessment was imposed, as well as a $25.00 State Police drug trafficking fee and all costs of the court proceeding.
Christopher Lee Davis, age 31, of Flora, IL died at 9:03 AM on Friday May 4, 2012 at Clay County Hospital in Flora.
He was born November 12, 1980 in Flora to Lilith Davis and John Beck.
Although Christopher’s life was affected by limitations because of Type 1 diabetes since the age of 17, he will forever be remembered as a very special person and sorely missed by those who loved him. In the past, Christopher was involved as a local Cubmaster and enjoyed playing football. And every year, he looked forward to traveling to the river for a week of summertime fishing with his grandfather.
Joyce Marie Powless, 76, of Boles, Arkansas passed away on Sunday May 6, 2012 at her home.
Survivors include one son Steven Powless of Woodward, Oklahoma three daughters; Karen Rogers of Gatesville, Texas, Dawn Eike of Fargo, Oklahoma, Robin Powless of Okemah, Oklahoma, six grandchildren; Lacey Semmel of Woodward, Oklahoma, Steffani Wilson of Woodward, Oklahoma, Tanner Powless of Woodward, Oklahoma, Rayna Esteban of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, Relena Haddox of Okemah, Oklahoma, Jo Eike, six great-grandchildren; Cheyenne Semmel, Callie Semmel, K. J. Powless, Blaine White, Melanie and Madalyn Esteban.
Doris Mae Haegele Scheetz, 87 of Kenefick, TX passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at her residence with her family by her side. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Kenefick Southern Baptist Church in Kenefick, TX. Graveside services will be in Fairfield, IL. in Knootz Cemetery under the direction of Hosselton Funeral Home in Cisne, IL on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 2:00 PM. Those attending the graveside service are asked to go directly to the cemetery. A gathering of Doris’s family and friends will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the church.
Patricia A. Barnes, 69 of Washington, Illinois passed away at 10:40am Friday May 4, 2012 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born October 7, 1942 in Cisne, Illinois to R. Ivan Jones and E. Margaret (Cooper) Jones White. She married Larry Edward Barnes on Aug. 31, 1963 in Cisne, IL. He passed away on Nov. 27, 1998.
Surviving are her children LaMarr (Maria) Barnes of Mound, MN, Julia Neal of Bowling Green, KY, and Kathryn (Francisco) Huerta of El Paso, TX, as well as grandchildren, Jonathan (Ashley) Barnes, Jacob Neal, and Lara and Nate Barnes, and great grandchildren, Ethan and Kaleb Barnes. She is also survived by her mother Margaret White of Fairfield, IL.
Ernest Eugene “Gene” Johnson, age 73, of Flora, IL died at 1:25 AM Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at his home.
Mr. Johnson was born November 12, 1938 in Clay County, Illinois to William Claude and Ina Mae (Dill) Johnson. He married Doris Ann Dagg on December 30, 1960, in Louisville, IL. She preceded him in death on November 29, 1995. Gene was a retired truck driver. He was a member of Flora Assembly of God Church and a U.S. Army veteran. Gene enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family, especially his great-grandson. Through his radio equipment he made a hobby of talking with people everywhere.
Clarence Lee Stanley, 79 of Flora, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 9:45 p.m. At Flora Healthcare and Rehab.
Clarence was born on May 7, 1932 to Arthur Earl Stanley and Velma (Smith) Stanley of Clay County, Hoosier Township. He was a veteran in the Army, a security guard for Valley Steel in Flora and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Herman Stanley and Virgil Stanley, and one sister.
Pearlie W. Grove, 95, of Cisne, IL passed away 6:00AM Tuesday, May 01, 2012 at his home. He was a retired farmer.
Visitation will be from 4-7PM on Sunday, May 6th at Hosselton Funeral home is Cisne. Services will be held at 10:30AM Monday, May 7th at the funeral home with burial at Cisne Cemetery. There will be military honors at the cemetery.
Pearlie was born North of Geff, IL on August 25, 1916, the son of Carl and Mary (Trotter) Grove.
Kenneth R. Pearce, age 84, of Flora, IL died at 10:27 AM Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.
Mr. Pearce was born July 22, 1927 in Flora to Charles Edwin Pearce Sr. and Goldie Atherton (Dobbs) Pearce. In 1949 he married Joan P. Perry in Reno, NV. She preceded him in death in 1998. Kenneth was a supervisor/sales manager for Dr. Pepper Bottling Company in San Francisco, CA for 33 years, served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, had attended Harmony United Methodist Church, and was a member of Flora VFW Post #3999, Flora American Legion Post #14, and Flora Masonic Lodge.
Holly Connolly, age 57, of Xenia, IL died at 9:35 AM on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Good Samaritan RHC in Mt. Vernon, IL.
She was born February 1, 1955 in Chicago Heights, IL to Glen and Eleanor (Elliott) Wiser. Holly loved animals, horses, knitting, crocheting and being outdoors.
She is survived by her brother, Allen Wiser of Soldotna, AK; friends Krystal & Ronnie Speagle and Stacy Bullard; and the staff and residents at Flora Gardens Care Center.

Scott was born April 1, 1972 at Fairfield, IL to Jerald L. and Barbara J. (Taylor) Hubble. He was divorced.
He was a Cable Splicer for Wabash Telephone Coop at Louisville, IL. Scott was a member of the Mt. Erie Christian Church; IBEW Local 702 at West Frankfort, IL and Edwards County Sportsman’s Club at Albion, IL
Lowell Pemberton, age 70, of Flora, Illinois, passed away at 6:15 am, Sunday, April 29, 2012 at West Park Rehabilitation Center in Evansville, Indiana.
Lowell was born June 25, 1941 in Flora, Illinois, the son of Roy Leo and Betty Jean (Porter) Pemberton.
Lowell was a former teacher and coach for the Flora Unit #35 school district. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Flora; a diehard Chicago Bears and Flora Wolves fan; member of the National Humane Society, and the NRA; and a past member of the Odd Fellows of Flora.

Shane Robert DeVore, age 39, of Flora, IL died at 5:50 PM on Monday, April 23, 2012 at his home in Flora.
He was born July 9, 1972 in Flora to Kenneth and Sharon (Campbell) DeVore. Shane enjoyed working on cars, 4-wheeler riding, shooting pool, and spending time with family and friends. He had worked at NAL and in construction.
Richard Edward “Ed” Mefford, age 79, of Flora, IL died at 8:20 PM on Friday, April 20, 2012 at Flora Gardens Care Center in Flora.
He was born April 14, 1933 in Tuscola, IL to John and Ethel (Scammahorn) Mefford. Ed was employed by University of Illinois Building Services for almost 20 years, and worked doing yard work and other various jobs where he could help others. His funny faces, practical jokes, and love of family, grandkids and all children and young people are things that everyone remembers about Ed.

Meryle S. Fatheree, age 93, of Xenia, passed away at 5:05 a.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Clay County Hospital in Flora.
Mr. Fatheree was born on May 17, 1918, in Wayne County, IL to Aaron and Mertie (Carneal) Fatheree. He was an area farmer.
Survivors include one sister: Hazel Wattles of Louisville, IL; two nieces: Carolyn (Dennis) Shoemaker and Sherry (Gene) Roley both of Effingham, IL; two great-nieces: Jill (Rodney) Hoyt of Louisville, IL, and Erin (Bryan) Werner of Collinsville, IL; and one great nephew: Curtis Roley of Effingham, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers (Bryan, Ernest, and Earl Fatheree), and 1 sister (Mary Thompson).
