David L. Cook, 67, of Flora, passed away at 4:38 p.m., Friday, January 8, 2010 at the Clay County Hospital in Flora.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a truck driver and former employee of the Santa Fe Railroad. He attended the Clay City Christian Church and was a member American Legion, VFW, Moose, AARP, National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. David enjoyed gardening, birds and flowers.

He was born December 9, 1942 in Sims, Ill. To Lawrence and Juanita (Lowrey) Cook, they preceded him in death. He would later marry Juanita Broyles on July 6, 1976 in Manhattan, Kan., she preceded him in death on April 10, 2002. He would later marry Joyce D. Whitfield on June 6, 2009 in Clay City, she survivors.

Other survivors include children; Joyce Moore, and husband David, of Cisne, Janeen Michael, and husband Pat, of Cisne, David J. Carter, of Clay City, Larry E. Carter, of Clay City, Jim Broyles, of Johnsonville, Julia Murgrage, and husband Scott, of Scottsbluff, Neb., Jimmy N. Carter, of Clay City, Thomas R. Cook, of Streator, Ill., brothers; Danny Cook, of Sreator, Dennis Cook, Bullhead City, Ariz., sisters; Patty Jenkins, of Long Point, Ill., Elaine Goerne, of Streator, Ill., Joyce Cook, of Streator, Ill., Lisa Rhodes, of Long Point, Ill. 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Services for David will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at the Frank and Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Burial will follow in Jacobs Chapel Cemetery in Orchardville with full military rites. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at the funeral home.
