Martha Clowers Lewis, 85, of Flora, passed away at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at her home.
Martha was born in Flora on October 31, 1924, to Homer and Mary (Hardy) Bute. On July 10, 1954, she was married to Jim Clowers; he preceded her in death on November 5, 1984. She later married Ron Lewis on March 26, 1992; he preceded her in death.
Martha was a homemaker, but also worked for Effingham CEFS, at the Junior High School Cafeteria and helped in the kitchen at the VFW. She was a member of the Flora VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Martha is survived by her children, Grace Monical and Chuck Hancock of Cisne, Beth Ranes and husband Rolland of Louisville, Nancy Byers and husband Sam of Louisville, Mary Forth and husband Lonnie of Flora and Ronnie Lewis of Louisville; daughter-in-law, Kay Clowers of Independence, Ky.; sister, Marilyn McGee and husband Albert of Wentzville, Mo.; grandchildren, Jamey Tolliver and husband Tink of Clay City, Gary “JR” Monical and Jodi of Paxton, Ill., Genny Saatkamp and husband Jim of Flora, Justin McNeely, Kyle Porter of Cisne and Crystal Williams and husband Lou of Independence, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Joshua Sullens, Sean Sullens and wife Mandy, U.S. Air Force Airman Jessica Monical, U.. Navy Airman Bobby Jo Monical, U.S. Army Private Cody Saatkamp, Wade and Courtney Saatkamp and Kayla Erwin; great-great-grandchildren, Chase Williams, Reid Williams, Sidney Sullens and Tucker Sullens.
Preceding Martha in death were her parents, both of her husbands, son, Jim Clowers Jr.; daughter Peggy Landreth and brother, Don Bute.
Funeral services for Martha Clowers Lewis were held on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Frank and Bright Funeral Home. Albert McGee officiated. A visitation was held on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Frank and Bright Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.frankandbright.com
