Donald R. Smith, 80, of Noble, passed away at 8:55 p.m, Monday, January 25, 2010 at Richland Care and Rehab in Olney.

Donald worked for the Village of Noble for 28 years and was a member of the North Freedom Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United State’s Army, where he served in the Korean War. He was a member of the County Line Rod and Gun Club and the Olney VFW.

He was born April 22, 1929 in Clay City to William Henry and Sylvia Carida (Travis) Smith. He would later marry Lora Marie Herdes on June 11, 1950 in Clay City, she survives.
Other survivors include sons Lonnie Ray Smith, and wife Connie, of Noble; Mark Allan Smith, and wife Janice, of Noble; sister Thelma Brewer, of Olney; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Others who preceded him in death were his son Jeffrey.

Services for Donald were at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Noble, Dr. Berton Heleine officiated. Burial followed, with full military rites performed by the Clay City Veterans, at the Clay City Cemetery.

Visitation was from 9 to 11 a.m., Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
