Robert J. Brown, 89, of Johnsonville, IL died at 10:10 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

He was born July 9, 1922 in Flora, IL to Oscar C. and Florence (Michael) Brown.  He was married to Betty (Cunningham) Brown and she preceded him in death on March 23, 1981. 

Robert was retired from Trunkline Gas Company and served in the U.S. Army during WWII.  He was a member of Flora American Legion Post #14, was of the Christian faith, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.    He had a special love for his grandkids and was grateful for the help of his family and neighbors in maintaining his independence at home.

He is survived by a son: Jack R. (Patricia A.) Brown of Opdyke; daughter: Darlene M. (Larry) Reid of Bone Gap; 4 grandchildren: Teresa (Mark) Robertson of Calhoun, KY, Steven R. Brown of Mt. Vernon, Stephanie Reid of Mt. Carmel, Robert E. (special friend Michelle) Reid of Wayne City; 8 great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and several brothers and sisters.

A graveside service for Robert Brown will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Elmwood Cemetery in Flora with Pastor Bruce Horsley officiating.  Military honors will be presented at the conclusion of the service.  Frank & Bright Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.  An online guest book is available at www.frankandbright.com.

The family requests that memorials be given to American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, or to that of the donor's choice.
