Flora to host Wooden Bat Classic this weekend

Summer will come into full swing this weekend when the Flora Little League will host their annual Wooden Bat Classic at Brax Chaney Field.

Teams from all over the area will begin coming into Flora on Friday when they tournament opens up.

Future Wolves shine bright during camp week

The future of the Flora Wolves basketball program have gathered all week as they hone their skills in shooting, defense, and teamwork as part of the 2009 Flora Wolves basketball camp held at Flora High School inside Conley Gymnasium.

Flora Jr. Legion finds stride in Champaign

The Flora Junior Legion Post 14 looked to build off their win last Sunday against the Southern Illinois Bullets when they headed to Champaign early Friday morning.

Champaign hosted the eight team Junior Legion tournament at Champaign Centennial and Champaign Central schools.

City City/Noble co-op still without definite decision

After a meeting held in Clay City and a meeting held in Noble, there is still no agreement on a two-year cooperative agreement for three sports regarding the two schools.

A decision wasn’t made after either meeting, which was designed to inform and allow the community members to speak on the possibility of a cooperative agreement.

Bushue officially signs contract with Astros

FLORA-The North Clay Cardinals celebrated their first IHSA Regional Championship in 15 years last week after defeating Brownstown in Altamont.

Thursday, the Cardinals were scheduled to play their Midland Trail Conference rival South Central Cougars in Bridgeport for a Sectional semi-final baseball game.

Wolfgals season ends thanks to Lady Shoes

CCHS plans Sports Co-op meeting with Noble

CLAY CITY-Clay City and West Richland (Noble) school districts are considering working cooperatively to allow the two districts to form high school sports teams.

This discussion was prompted by the decreasing enrollment, by the low number of students interested in participating in various sports, and by the desire of both district’s personnel to have quality programs for those students who are interested.

Flora began post-season play last Thursday in Newton against the host Eagles and finished their post-season on Saturday against the Olney Tigers.

Hoop for Hunger Scrimmage date set

The newest International Basketball League team, the Southern Illinois Truth, will be hosting scrimmage at Flora High School on Tuesday, May 19th inside Conley Gymnasium.

The scrimmage will be two games and will start at 6 p.m.

Wolfgals basketball camp set for June 8-12

Flora Wolfgals Head Basketball Coach Bob McNeely, along with the Wolfgals varsity basketball team and staff will conduct their 2009 basketball camp from June 8-12 at Flora High School.

The camp will provide it’s campers with the necessary fundamentals that will enable the participant to improve their over all skill level. Fundamentals such as defense, proper shooting techniques, ball handling skills and passing will be stressed daily.
