The North Clay Cardinals got a fielder's choice bunt in the sixth inning that propelled them to a come from behind win over the Newton Eagles on Tuesday.
Jordan Bloemer was on the mound for the Cardinals and helped himself in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run home run that brought in Quincy Aldrich for a 2-0 lead.
The Eagles got single tallies in the third and fourth innings to tied the game before taking the lead in top of the sixth with a another single run.
Brandon Repking got the bottom of the sixth inning started with a double to right field. Aldrich tied the game by lining the first pitch he saw to left field and driving home Repking for a 3-3 game.
Bloemer dropped a fly ball into center field for a base hit and Aldrich went to third.
With runners on the corners and one out in the inning, Reese Blank dropped a bunt down the first base line. Newton's first baseman came charging down the line and flipped the ball to his catcher but Aldrich beat the play and scored what would be the winning run.
The fielder's choice bunt seemed to knock the wheels off for the Eagles as they gave up a base hit to Ethan Burkett that loaded the bases and ended the day for Mitch Jansen on the mound as he was replaced by Noah Wagy.
The first pitch that Wagy threw was a comebacker off the bat of Colt VanDyke. Wagy couldn't come up with the ball cleanly nad Bloemer scored to give the Cardinals' a two-run lead.
The Cardinals still had bases loaded with the top of the lineup back to bat and two outs in the inning. Tyson Jones came up and watched four straight pitches go out of the strike zone for a free pass that brought home Blank for a 6-3 win.
Brandon Repking, who came into pitch for the Cardinals in the fifth inning, got a fly out to start the seventh inning. After a base hit to center, he got Wagy and Connor Bierman looking at strike three to give the Cardinals their 8th win of the season.
The Cardinals had seven hits in the win with Bloemer and Burkett each getting two. Bloemer also scored a pair of runs as did Aldrich.
Repking got the win with three innings of relief.
