EPG drops HOIC contest

    A sharp third-quarter surge provided Eureka with some breathing room as the Hornets gained control in their HOIC contest against El Paso-Gridley at the Titan Center Thursday.
    The 17-point effort coming out of the intermission break lifted Eureka to a 55-37 victory, leaving it unbeaten in league play in eight contests.
    The Titans fell behind 10-2 in the opening period and showed more life in the second to make it a 20-15 game at halftime. Eureka then came out firing and built 37-20 lead late in the third.
    The Hornets scored 35 points in the second half to improve to 17-2 on the season. EPG fell to 8-8, 3-4 in league play.
    Sierra Carr had 11 points for the Titans and Ashlyn Stone added 7 to go with 7 rebounds. Rebecca Orns had 6 points and 8 boards while Jordyn Cannon also scored 6 points. Jaycie Schertz netted 5 points and Addison Benedict tallied 2 markers.
    Courtney Heffron had 20 points for Eureka with Darby Leman adding 13.
