After winning 60-33 over Red Hill Thursday night, at Louisville, the Lady Cardinals of North Clay won the Class 1A Regional Championship.

LEAPING OFF THE bench to accept the trophy as the 2011-12 Midland Trail Conference Girls Basketball Tournament Champions are the Lady Cardinals of North Clay High School. The Lady Cards defeated Sandoval 60-49 on Saturday night in Cisne to claim the MTC Tourney title.

Graduation is a step on to the next part of a student’s life. In High School, what comes next can be unsure. In Junior High, the details may be fuzzy, but these students know where they’re headed: to high school and back to the bottom of the pile as freshmen.
Flora, North Clay and Clay City Schools all held their ceremonies for the end of eighth grade: a promotion in Flora, a commencement at North Clay and a graduation in Clay City.
Whatever the title, the gist of it is the same, these kids are headed on.
A new chapter of life has begun for the seniors of all three Clay County High Schools this weekend, as all of the school's held graduation exercises.
Clay City started the weekend out with its High School Graduation held Friday night at 8 p.m. Next was North Clay High School at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Finally, Flora High School's graduation tied the weekend up at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Clay City's class of 2011 featured Cassandra Lybarger as their salutatorian and Katelyn Hosselton as their valedictorian.
Hosselton's speech centered around around sticking with your dreams through thick and thin.
Well, things have really been interesting this week! For a student, rain isn’t the uplifting spring weather you hope for in March. And snow is definitely unexpected! Nevertheless, we come to school and endure the grogginess that weights us down.
Mrs. Lewis has found a way to get everyone up and moving, despite our low spirits. She is encouraging students and teachers to learn a dance to “Good Time” by Alan Jackson which will be videotaped on Friday. The goal is to have a large group all doing the dance and then it will be posted on Youtube!
Also, this week, if weather cooperates, the first baseball and softball games of the season will be played! Track has started up as well! Spring sports are swinging into view and all of the North Clay athletes love any support their fans give, so come out and cheer on our students!
The regular meeting for the Vinsans Trace Chapter of the NSDAR was less regular than normal for the month of March, when the highlight event of the meeting was recognizing those young people that the Chapter named their Good Citizen Award winners for 2010.
The winners of the Good Citizen Awards are typically selected as the top applicants from each of the high schools in the Vinsans Trace area. This year, there were four winners.
They were, Lindsey Drewes from West Richland High School, Andrew Grahn from North Clay High School, Hannah Leib from Flora High School and Cassandra Lybarger from Clay City High School.
Everyone seems to be enjoying the better weather. Don’t get out the summer clothing yet, winter is not over yet.
How are ya’ll out there in newspaper land? I’m recuperating slowly. I didn’t have a cold until about four weeks, then one got me. It is not a good thing to have with asthma, that’s for sure. Friends have been calling every day to see about me. No, there wasn’t news last week, I didn’t feel like typing. I did very little cooking. The instant food supply is depleted.
I did hear good news last week on the radio. An artificial retina has been successfully developed. Now people who have been blind for several years will be able to see again. When the retina is approved to be sold in the United States the cost will be about $100,000.
This week at NCHS has been full of excitement and fun for the students. From getting the opportunity to honor the leaders of our nation this past Monday for Presidents' Day, to enjoying all of the fun that FFA week offers the students, this week has surely been an eventful and a pleasant addition to our high school memories.While all of the fuin is going on at the high school, there have been other academic accomplishments that have taken place this week by a select few of the students, which has created school history.
This week students have enjoyed the change in temperature which has caused quite a stir in those who have eagerly been waiting for spring. However, the weather seems to be changing back to cold after this quick warm spell. Hopefully we will be seeing more of this warmth before too long, but as for now, it's time to break out the winter clothes again and wait just a bit longer for Spring. Students have just a taste of those warm and beautiful temperatures to help them through the end of winter.
One hundred and eighty-three students from 14 area high schools participated in the 31st annual Academic Challenge contest at Olney Central College.
The statewide event is sponsored by the University of Illinois.
Division 300 schools competing this year were: Edwards County, Palestine, Oblong, Clay City, Hutsonville, North Clay, Red Hill and West Richland.
The North Clay Community Unit School Board met on the evening of Thursday, February 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the Unit Office for their regular monthly meeting.
During the meeting the Board set the dates for High School Graduation, Eighth Grade Promotion. A cooperative agreement for High School Football with Flora and the Little Illini Conference was also approved by the Board.
The Board also voted to purchase a propane powered demo school bus. Finally, the Board voted to advertise for bids for parking lot renovation.
High School Graduation was set for Saturday, May 21, with the baccalaureate at 3:30 p.m. and the graduation at 4 p.m. Eighth Grade
Promotion is scheduled for Monday, May 23 at 7 p.m. Pre-K Graduation will be on Thursday, May 19, at 7 p.m.

The school board of the North Clay Community Unit 25 district met on the evening of Thursday, April 8, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. for their regular monthly meeting at the unit office. A lengthy discussion was held regarding summer building projects and a motion was made for superintendent Monty Aldrich to work with Eggemeyer Architects to prepare a bid for the replacement of the High School roof.

D.A.R.E. Graduations for Clay City Jr. High and North Clay Jr. High. Clay
City's Graduation is set for April 23, at 1:00 p.m. at the Jr. High Gym in
Clay City.
North Clay's graduation date is set for April 30 at the Jr. High
Gym in Louisville.
