Alice Clair Westman, 82, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 8:30 A.M. November 5, 2019 at her residence. She was born March 11, 1937 in Xenia, Illinois to the late Merle Eugene and Thelma Marie (Harshbarger) Stoutenburg. Alice married Charles Arthur Westman on June 15, 1956 in Flora, Illinois. They were blessed with nearly fifty-five years of marriage before he preceded her in death on May 9, 2011.

Alice is survived by her son, Michael Westman and partner, Chris Keene of New Castle, Delaware; daughters, Carolyn Wallis and husband, Rick of Liberty, Missouri, Susan Morgan and husband, Kenny of Opdyke, Illinois, and Dawn Everett and husband, Chad of Norris City, Illinois; grandchildren, Alyssa Oldham and husband, Justin of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Aron Wallis and wife, Lauren Pope of Kansas City, Missouri, Shelby Morgan of Opdyke, Illinois, Hope Everett of Edwardsville, Illinois, Halle Everett, Hollan Everett, Hinsley Everett, and Lucas Everett, all of Norris City, Illinois; special children, Karen Collier of Mattoon, Illinois and Stan and Pam Heldenbrand of Henderson, Kentucky; special grandchildren, Katie Heldenbrand of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Adam Heldenbrand, and Faith Heldenbrand, both of Henderson, Kentucky; great-grandchildren, Lennon Paisley Oldham, Hermione Belle Oldham, and Thomas Ziggy Pope Wallis; brother, Jerry Johnson and wife, Susan of Canon City, California; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Waytula and husband, John of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Alice was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy Johnson; sister, Jeannene Eulenfeld; special son, Wayne Collier; and special granddaughter, Kelsey Heldenbrand.

Alice worked as a special education teacher’s aide at Franklin School for many years. She was a faithful member of West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and served as the pianist for many years. She also sang in the Love Shine group. Alice was an avid reader and was a member of a book club at the C.E. Brehm Library. She was a Saint Louis Cardinal’s fan and loved watching Hallmark movies. Most of all, Alice loved her family and spent her life teaching them about the Lord. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

A Visitation will be held Sunday, November 10, 2019 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, November 11, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church with Reverend Bumper Quick officiating. Memorials may be made in Alice’s honor to the Friendship of Faith Soup Kitchen or West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
