For the second straight year and eighth time in school history, the Flora Wolfgals tennis team has captured a sectional championship.

All six members of the Wolfgals team that participated in the sectional tournament has qualified for the state tournament that will take place later this week in the Chicagoland area.

The tournament began with Sonae Shelton and Kelsey Krutsinger each receiving a first round bye.

In the second round, Shelton faced off against Katie Halbig from Mt. Carmel.  The Flora freshman blanked her opponent with 6-0, 6-0 scores.

Kelsey Krutsinger took on a familiar opponent in Abby Siler of Robinson.

The senior knocked off her opponent, 6-3 and 6-1.

With the wins, the Flora singles duo advanced to the semifinal round.

In the final four, Shelton met up with LIC singles champion Nicole Shan from Olney.

On her home court, the Lady Tiger shutout Shelton with 6-0 and 6-0 scores.

Krutsinger matched up with Jacelyn Street from Newton.  Krutsinger was bumped to the third place match after a 7-5, 6-3 loss.

The third place match was a replay from the LIC Conference tournament singles bracket where Krutsinger picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win.

The sectional tournament would have the same result.  Krutsinger again used her experience to pick up a win over the freshman 6-3 and 6-4.

On the doubles side, the two Flora teams each received first round byes.

In the second round, Bailey Pearce and Kasey Jennings faced off with Jones and Marcum from Centralia.

The Flora tandem advanced with a commanding 6-2 and 6-1 win.

Gracey Himelick and Kyrsten Darrough met up with Goodman and Hargis from Robinson.

The younger duo for the Wolfgals advanced with a 6-2 and 6-1 win.

In the quarterfinals, Jennings and Pearce met up with Kendall and Saltsgiver from Mt. Carmel.

The Flora team was defeated by the Olney duo 6-0 and 6-1.

Darrough and Himelick took on Eckerty and Tutewiler from Casey.  The Casey team came out on top with a 6-2 and 6-2 win to set up another all Flora third place match.

Pearce and Jennings defeated their teammates for third place with 6-1 and 6-1 scores.
